Hi,
This happens often after picking skills and when picking hero model.
Let's say you want to pick hero "A". If someone else picks a hero (hero "B") in your tavern, the hero position will change. This led to you picking hero "C" instead of "A" if you click right after hero "B" is picked. Then you need to repick and lose initial gold.
Is it possible to lock hero positions in taverns?

I suggested this last year and was told to either "eat shit and die" or go "fuck yourself." I cant remember which one was proffered.

Nice. Ive picked the wrong hero because of this a few times now. Can be frustrating!

No, it actually wasn't possible, until very recently. DracoL1ch made a breakthrough in the coding which makes a lot more stuff possible now - he simply lacks money, thats why development is stalled right now.
