If they attack you with Impetus while you are scepter fiends gripping them they dont fall asleep.  Channeling is hard enough!

There are quite a few situations fiends grip does not put attackers asleep.  wolf form for example.

Appears Fiendish Grip has a leash radious for sedating people to sleep while channeling.

 

Cant speak for morphing.

 

I suggest this thread is moved to the bug report thread ongoing and gets it's target + range values checked.
